Resources and Supplies

These are the supplies that I use in my home with my Lagotti.  I only recommend them because they have worked well for me and/or I have gotten great feed back from my puppy families.

Dog Food

These are the dog foods that I use and recommend and the company I recommend buying it from.  The owners are small business owners and they are very responsive to requests.  If you call them, the owner, Margaret, is usually the one that answers the phone.  Super nice lady!!
PLEASE DO NOT BUY LARGER THAN 15 POUNDS BAGS.  To get free shipping, you must spend $49 so just buy two bags at one time. I highly recommend that you place your order on auto-ship so you can get the discount and not have to worry about buying dog food.  I would recommend starting with auto-ship every two months but you can change that any time if it is too soon or not soon enough.

Nature's Logic is an all life stages food so it is suitable from puppy to senior life stages.  The puppies are currently eating the Duck & Salmon but there are several other varieties of proteins to try.  However, please do not feed your puppy the sardine version.  I don't feel that there is enough fat in that version for a growing puppy.  After the puppy is two years old, feel free to feed the sardine if they like it. One of the best parts of this food is that it contains no synthetics!
Picture
I have had great success with the Redpaw brand puppy food.  They aren't as thrilled with the flavor of Redpaw as they are Nature's Logic but I like that it is specifically for puppies.  After obtaining my certification as a pet food nutrition specialist, I did a lot of label reading and researching of dry dog foods.  This was the best food for growing puppies that actually produced less poop, which means the puppies were actually absorbing more of the nutrients.

Books

These are the books that I highly recommend.  There are many others that are great to but these are the ones that will give you the best information for caring for and training your new puppy
Picture
Hands down this is the best book for raising your puppy.  I have gotten great feedback from my puppy families about what a great resource and tool this book is and how it has really helped them to train and raise a well behaved, confident dog.
Picture
Dr. Patricia McConnell is probably one of the most highly regarded Veterinary Behaviorists.  She has many books and DVD's on training, behavior modification, multiple dog homes, etc.  You can't go wrong with any of her books or DVD's.
Picture
101 Dog Tricks is a really great book for training your dog.  It gives you photos and detailed instructions.  My daughter and I have used this book a lot.
Picture
This is the children's version of the 101 Dog Tricks book.  Your children will have a great time training their new puppy, with Mom's or Dad's assistance.

Health

These are the products I recommend for the care and health of your puppy including crates and grooming supplies
Picture
This is the crate I would recommend for flying with your new puppy.  It has excellent ventilation on all 4 sides and it is large enough for the puppy to be comfortable on longer flights.
Picture
This is the size crate I recommend for your dog as an adult.  It gives them plenty of room to stretch out comfortably and to lay on their back to help cool off.
Picture
This crate has a great wire divider so it can be used in conjunction with potty training by keeping the space small and expanding as the puppy grows.

My daughter got this bed for me as a birthday present and the dogs absolutely love it.  It has a plush cover and memory foam core.  Queen Bee Bella has staked her claim on this bed.
Picture
The Kuranda Bed has been a great addition to our breeding program.  This bed is used extensively in shelters and rescue programs due to its comfort and durability.  Puppy families affectionately refer to it as the "trampoline."
Picture
When grooming your Lagotto, you want a brush with bristles that aren't too close together so they don't damage the undercoat of your dog.  These work great and are environmentally friendly.
Picture
These are the best nail clippers I have used.  They take a little getting used to due to their shape but they stay sharp longer than any other nail clippers I have used.
Picture
If you are going to trim their nails yourself, you should definitely have styptic on hand to stop the bleeding when you clip their nail too short.  It will happen, even to those of us who trim nails all the time.
Picture
Having Fortiflora on hand for those times when your puppy/dog has soft stools or diarrhea. We always have a box on hand for when pure pumpkin or boiled mashed baby carrots don't do the trick.
Picture
Best shampoo and conditioner I have ever used.  Very gentle on their skin and contains no soap so it won't hurt if you accidentally don't get all of it out of their hair.
Picture
The small  size diaper is usually the size the puppies will use when they first come home with you.  The males usually do better with the medium size.
Picture
The medium size diapers work best on the males when they first come home.
Picture
This calming collar is great to use for when the puppy transitions from our home to yours.  Please bring a small collar with you when you pick up your puppy.
Picture
Kwinn had this Dogline Soft Leather collar on when she tried to jump over the picket fence while we were grocery shopping.  When we came home, she no longer had her collar on, it was hanging on the picket fence.  Because it is leather, it has a little give to it and it saved Kwinn's life.  BEST COLLARS, EVER!! You can even get a matching leash.
Picture
We love these lighted collars.  This particular one can be charge with a USB cord.  This helps us find our brown dogs when they are outside at night.

Training & Enrichment

Picture
The bacon flavored Train-Me treats are the training treats of choice for us.  We use these a lot with nosework in particular.  Bacon has a nice strong odor for the dogs to find easily
Picture
The Leanlix are new and we just started using them.  The link takes you to the hot dog flavored stick. You may have to try different flavors to see which ones your dog prefers.
Picture
Lamb lungs are the pack favorite.  Bella will do anything for a lamb lung.  We use these to treat the dogs when they come in the house after doing their business outside.
Picture
This is the one 'toy' that everyone of our dogs goes crazy over.  We put their meal in the ball and they roll it around to make the kibble fall out.  It is a great way to give dogs mental stimulation and feed them all at the same time.
Picture
These doggie doorbells are great.  This is usually a favorite of the professional trainers that come to train our puppies.  It is a great tool to help teach your puppy to ring the bell when they need to go outside to relieve themselves.
Picture
This was the first doggie puzzle we every purchased and it is still the most popular.  The Train-Me Bacon flavored treats work really well with this puzzle.
Picture
This Doggie Tail vibrates and jumps around.  If you have a sensitive puppy, this may not be the best toy for them.  We always introduce all of our puppies to this toy.  Some like it and some don't.  Those that like it, really like it a lot.
Picture
The puppies LOVE the Babble Balls.  We have used the blue Babble Balls with several of our litters and it is always a favorite.
Picture
We just found red Babble Ball.  It makes different sounds than the blue ball and it even lights up.  Emma's & Kwinn's litters really like this ball a lot when it lights up.
